VIJAYAWADA: It was a special day for parents and students of Nalanda Vidya Niketan, for they took part in - Sweet Memories - Replay 2006, an exclusive two-day programme to showcase their talent in various art forms and culinary skills. Conducted exclusively for parents for the fourth consecutive year, most participants demonstrated their unbridled enthusiasm.
Interesting events
Inaugurating the programme here on Friday, Mayor Mallika Begum said that such events would help improve the parent-teacher relationship and thereby help the overall development of children. Parents took part in events like Phool Khile... (flower arrangement), Tharuni Tharunam (embroidery and fabric paintings) and Add colours... (drawing and pot painting) and exhibited their works. However, the centre of attraction was Mirch Masala - a cooking competition in which mothers presented a wide range of dishes, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian. "The participants should be able to explain the recipe and answer the questions asked by judges," said vice-principal G. Gayathri. The art section witnessed many colourful and eye-catching paintings. Aesthetically arranged flower bouquets drew the attention of the onlookers. On Saturday, events will be held in Rangoli in which the participants should present a pattern in the allotted time and Okariki-okaru - a made for each other competition for couples. "Coordination between wife and husband will be tested through questions. To add an element of fun and entertainment, we are organising Movie Muqabla - a quiz programme in which both parents and students can participate. Quizzing will be done in Telugu and Hindi movies," Ms. Gayathri added.
Glam touch
A fashion show for women will also be held in the evening to add a touch of glamour to the show. "The judgment criteria will be confidence, gait, appearance and costume," she added.
