Maoists condemn encounter killing

BANGALORE: The Communist Party of India (Maoist) has condemned the killing of Dinakar, one of its activists, during an encounter with the police in Sringeri taluk on Monday.

In a press release, Gangadhar, representing the party's State committee, said the State Government instead of solving the problems of the people of the Malnad region, was killing people working for cause of the region. He alleged that the Government had surrendered to the capitalists.

Shield presented

to HMT

Bangalore: The HMT (International) Limited has been awarded the silver shield by the Regional Engineering Export Promotion Council for 2004-05 for being a star performer in the category of export of machine tools. Tamil Nadu Finance Minister K. Anbazhagan presented the award to the company's director (International Marketing) Thomas Oommen in Chennai.

K.H. Patil's statue

to be unveiled

BIJAPUR: Nandi Cooperative Sugar Factory will unveil statues of K.H. Patil and B.T. Patil Shirbur, well-known figures of the cooperative sector, in recognition of their contribution to realisation of the plant, on the factory premises at Krishnanagar in Bijapur taluk on January 2.

In a joint statement, directors of the factory, Hanmanth S. Koraddi, S.B. Patil and V.H. Bidari and president of sugarcane growers' association Shivanagouda T. Patil said the decision to this effect was taken unanimously.

Hassan-Mangalore train service

HASSAN: The Railways is all set to start the Hassan-Mangalore service, and the tentative date fixed for it is January 26.

Because of the gauge conversion on the Bangalore-Hassan-Mangalore route, train service in this sector was suspended 10 years ago. The work progressed at a snail's pace.

About a year ago, work was completed between Hassan and Mangalore.
