Five meet records set

Mumbai: Five new meet records were set in the 52nd National Schools athletics meet here on Friday. Dhiraj Mishra of Maharashtra smashed the meet record in the under-17 boys' triple jump.

Kerala's Jithin Thomas bagged the high jump title in the boys' under-19 with a meet record clearance of 2.04m. New meet records were also set by Kirpal Singh (Punjab) in the under-17 boys' discus event, Uttar Pradesh's Shameena Jabbar in the 3,000m for under-19 girls and Shiv Bahadur (U.P.) in the under-17 boys' pole vault.

The results (winners only):

Under-19: Boys: 200m: Deepak Basarkar (Mah) 22.2s. 5-km walk: Manoj Dombale (Mah) 23:13.6s. High jump: Jithin Thomas (Ker) 2.04m.

Girls: 200m: M. Anju (Ker) 25.5s. 3000m: Shameena Jabbar (U.P.) 9:55.7s (NMR).

Under-17: Boys: Triple jump: Dhiraj Mishra (Mah) 14.89m (NMR). Discus: Kirpal Singh (Pun) 55.27m (NMR). Pole vault: Shiv Bahadur (U.P.) 4.13m (NMR).

Under-14: Boys: Discus: Arjun Kumar (Har) 56.35m (NMR). — PTI
