MADIKERI: The Deputy Commissioner, Subodh Yadav, on Friday inspected the progress of work at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) building, which has been going on for some time now. Almost all work, except the electricity connection has been completed. Mr. Yadav said the SAI trainees staying at the Department of Youth Services and Sports Hostel building, near the District Stadium, at present could be shifted immediately after the formal inauguration of the new building at the Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa Stadium here to be held before January 26. Mr. Yadav inspected the ground, which is being levelled and also the open drainage work. President of the Coorg Hockey Association (CHA), N.U. Mohan, who was present, expressed satisfaction saying the work to lay a synthetic turf has at last materialised. The new facility should be ready by October next. The association would be able to conduct premier hockey events, including the State Super Division League matches at the venue, besides acting as a training facility to the Indian probable players in future. The SAI is funding the projects, which included completion of the SAI hostel building, preparatory work to lay the synthetic turf.
