Leaders of activists of the CPI(M) squat on the road

Sangareddy: With the police imposing Section 144 in the town and objecting to the protest march by Communist Party of India (Marxist) Ibrahimpatnam legislator M. Narsimha and party functionaries from the IB to the party office, led to tension here on Friday.

Party activists protesting against the lathicharge on their comrades on Thursday, squatted on the road near the new bus stand and sought justice.

Tension prevailed when the police tried to bodily lift the workers from the road.

Bandh peaceful

However, they were convinced to move towards the party office, thus averting a major showdown.

Meanwhile, the bandh was peaceful as most of the shops and establishments closed down voluntarily.

Buses and vehicles plied normally. Protests were organised in all other towns of the district in support of the bandh in Sangareddy.

In all police booked cases against 40 activists who participated in the dharna and 23 of them arrested under section 307 were shifted to Cherlapally jail and another three who were arrested were taken to the local jail.
