BERHAMPUR: Getting a step closer towards having an alliance in the coming panchayat polls in Ganjam district, the district units of the BJD and BJP held a meeting to discuss the blue print of alliance on Friday at Binayak temple of the city District BJD president Rebati Mohan Nayak, its secretary, Jagannath Sabat and district vice-president Umacharan Nayak led the BJD team at the meeting. Bijay Samal, president of the Berhampur mandal unit, Devananda Mohapatra, president of the Chatrapur mandal, Sivananda Tripathy, president of the Bhanjanagar mandal unit of the BJP, were part of the BJP team at the meeting.
Candidates' list
The leaders of both the parties decided that the intricacies of alliance for panchayat elections should get sorted out at the block-level. The block-level leaders of both parties were directed to sit together and decide the candidates for the panchayat polls within next two days so that the list of candidates may reach the district level committee for alliance of BJD-BJP by January 2. The district-level leaders of both the parties would meet again to finalise the list of candidates. Ganjam district is important for the BJD-BJP alliance as it happens to be the home district of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik as well as the Congress Union Minister of State for Rural Development Chadrasekhar Sahu.
