HITECH TICKETING: South Western Railway General Manager T.N. Perti inaugurating the platform ticket vending machine at Bangalore City Railway Station on Friday.
BANGALORE: Mobile phone users need not wait in the queue to buy platform tickets at Bangalore City Railway Station. They can just send an SMS and take the ticket at a special vending machine. South Western Railway General Manager Trilok Nath Perti inaugurated the facility on Friday. The facility, introduced for the first time in the country, is available to BSNL and Airtel subscribers. All that the subscriber has to do is type "PFT" and send it to the service provider. The number is 3939 for BSNL and 64629 for Airtel subscribers. In reply, the subscriber will get a five digit alpha numeric code, which should be punched in the machine. Each platform ticket taken through SMS will be charged at Rs. 4 and would be billed by the service provider. Mr. Perti also launched platform ticket vending machine, which has been integrated with the body mass index (BMI) machine. Another computerised car parking cum platform ticket issuing machine was commissioned on Friday.
Byappanahalli Terminal
The South Western Railway would be seeking land from the State Government at Byappanahalli, close to the proposed Metro Rail station, said Mr. Perti. Speaking to presspersons here on Friday, he said, "The South Western Railway will seek land at Byappanahalli to lay railway tracks." He said good parking space is available in the area and that many commuters using Metro Rail could use the facilities of railways, which would decongest traffic in the city railway station. He said that a new terminal was being planned at Byappanahalli and coach maintenance facilities had been proposed at Cantonment Station.
