TIRUPATI: The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) will conduct a national seminar on January 3 and 4 on Tarigonda Vengamamba, the 18th century poetess hailing from Vayalpadu in Chittoor district. She is known for scores of compositions on Lord Venkateswara. Well-known film director K.Viswanath will inaugurate the meet, to be conducted at Sri Venkateswara Employees Training Academy (SVETA) premises.
Range of topics
Renowned scholars have been invited to deliver talks on the life and contribution of Vengamamba. Samudrala Lakshmanaiah, who heads the TTD's Ithihasa Purana project, will speak on `Vengamamba's Vedantam', while editor of `Sapthagiri' monthly, C. Sailakumar, will dwell on her life and works. P.R.Rangarajan, a retired lecturer at SV Oriental College, will draw a parallel between Andal and Vengamamba, the two great poetesses, while K.J.Krishnamurthy, a researcher on Vengamamba, will compare her works with Meerabai's. DPP secretary P.Chenchu Subbiah will seek to explore her role in spreading the Venkateswara cult, while S.Krishna Reddy will reveal the social face of her works. On the cultural front, `Sangeethavadhani' Bhaskara Saikrishna Yachendra of Venkatagiri will give a concert on her works.
