Hooda assures Haryana of water

Special Correspondent

ALL SMILES: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Member of Parliament from Rohtak Deepinder Singh Hooda at the rally in Kosli town.

KOSLI: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Saturday asserted that his regime would ensure equitable distribution of water in the State.

Addressing a massive rally at Kosli in Rewari district, Mr. Hooda, flanked by Union Minister of State for Defence Inderjit Singh and working president of the Haryana unit of the Congress, Ram Parkash, said the Bhakra mainline Hansi-Butana multi-purpose canal when completed would ensure equitable distribution of water especially to southern Haryana.

With an indirect reference to the Devi Lal clan, he said those who were opposing the construction of the canal had launched a `nyaya yudh' against the Indira and Rajiv-Longowal accords respectively.

Mr. Hooda said he believed in teamwork in catapulting Haryana into the No. 1 State in the country. He also announced projects worth over Rs.100 crores for development of the area.

Emphasising that his Government was committed to providing water and electricity and eradicating corruption, he said a beginning had been made and the results would be visible in the next few years . The law and order situation had improved tremendously and organised crime was now a thing of the past. Mr. Hooda reiterated that his Government was pursuing the directive of Congress president Sonia Gandhi to serve the common man. He said the power scenario in the State was undergoing a change as the Government had initiated projects to enhance power availability by 5,000 MW in the next few years. He disclosed that the State was presently getting 4,000 MW of power, out of which its own production was only 1,850 MW. "Unlike my predecessors, I don't promise round-the-clock power supply free of cost, but we would provide 20 to 22 hours of power supply in every village," he asserted.

He also announced two power projects out of which one would be in Kosli.

Mr. Hooda ridiculed the INLD leader and former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala for his support to Shiromani Akali Dal chief Prakash Singh Badal in the forthcoming Punjab Assembly elections. "Despite the fact that Haryana has not got its due share of water from Punjab, how can one serve Haryana by politically aligning with those who have denied us with our rights," he asked.
