BERHAMPUR: Over 5,000 members of the Divine Life Society from all over Orissa have gathered in the city to attend the four-day State-level conference of the spiritual organisation that was inaugurated by its vice-president Swami Nirliptananda Saraswati on Friday. The participants are using their whole day in spiritual practices as if trying to welcome the New Year with a changed attitude of mind and body. Their day starts at 5 a.m. with kirtan, holy chants, meditation, practice of asana and pranayam. From 9.30 a.m. till 12.30 p.m. they sit down to hear discourses with interludes of bhajans. The evening session of this conference starts at 4.30 p.m. and continues till 8.40 p.m. with bhajans, discourses and film shows related to life and philosophies of Swami Sivananda and Swami Chidananda. More than 20 swamis of the Divine Life Society from all over the country are attending this conference. The presence of Swami Sivananda Muni from South Africa was quite notable. But the devotees are quite enthralled by the discourses of ninety-three-year old Swami Hansananda Saraswati of Rishikesh, who knew the founder of Divine Life Society, Swami Sivananda personally. Elucidating episodes from Swami Sivananda's life Swami Hansananda is explaining the intricacies of spiritual practices that can lead to one's liberation. According to him every action of our day-to-day life can be turned into worship of almighty.
