Parties take out rallies condemning the US Government

RIPPLE EFFECT: CPI(M) activists.taking out a procession with effigies of George Bush and Tony Blair in Bhubaneswar to protest against hanging of former president of Iraq Saddam Hussein on Saturday.

BHUBANESWAR: The execution of the former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein on Saturday caused widespread protests in different parts of Orissa.

Several political parties condemned the hanging and held protest demonstrations in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur, Balasore, Rourkela and other parts of the State condemning US President George Bush and US intervention in Iraq.The workers of the Communist Party of India (M) took out rallies and held public meetings at over a dozen places to protest against the hanging of the former Iraqi President.

In the public meetings, the party leaders and activists strongly criticised the US Government for its role in Iraq and said that the US will pay a heavy price for the `crime', the leaders said. The party workers also burnt effigies of the US President.

The activists of the Communist Party of India staged a demonstration in the city and burnt the US flag. Raising anti-US slogans, they condemned the hanging of the Iraqi leader.The activists of the SUCI in the capital city also burned the effigy of the US President and vowed to oppose the America Government's intervention.

In a statement, president of the Orissa unit of Samajwadi Party Baisnab Charan Parida condemned the hanging of Saddam Hussein. By ensuring the execution of the former Iraqi President, the US had hurt the Iraqis who were fighting for their motherland.

Barbaric act

In Berhampur, the CPI (M) activists gathered near the old busstand and burnt the effigy of George Bush and held a public meeting denouncing the role of the US behind the execution of the former Iraqi president. Ali Kishore Patnaik, member of the party State secretariat, and other leaders addressed the meeting and condemned American imperialism.

The members of the Muslim community of Berhampur also took out a rally in the evening expressing concern over the hanging of Saddam Hussein. They condemned the execution terming it as a barbaric act.
