BANGALORE: Director-General and Inspector-General of Police K.R. Srinivasan, who took charge on Sunday, has kept in abeyance an order of his predecessor directing police stations to display the photograph of the State police chief. "I am not in favour of displaying the photograph, at least during my tenure," he told presspersons. B.S. Sial, outgoing police chief, had issued an order directing police stations in the State to exhibit the photograph of the State police chief. He had said that the State police chief was the commander of the police force, just like the Army Chief, and that the commander's photo would inspire policemen. The former top cop defended his demand for Z-Plus security cover for him. He said that it was during his tenure that a terrorist attack took place in Bangalore and a few persons suspected to be involved with terrorist groups were arrested in Mysore. "I perceive a threat to my life as my photograph appeared in newspapers in Gulf countries," he said. On his letter asking for extension of service, Mr. Sial said the request was made pursuant to the order of the Supreme Court favouring fixed tenure to officials in key positions. The Government had to take a decision, he said. The State Government had opposed a proposal in this regard at a meeting of Chief Ministers in New Delhi on Saturday.
