KANCHEEPURAM : Bangaru (62), owner of a leading jewellery showroom in Chennai, and his wife Usha (56), were found dead in a `mansion' in Sriperumpudur on Saturday night. According to police, the couple reached Sriperumpudur around 5 p.m. on Saturday to visit the Sri Adhikesava Perumal temple in view of `Vaikunda Ekadasi' festival. After visiting the temple, they came to the mansion located on the Sriperumpudur-Tiruvallur Road, went to the open terrace and allegedly consumed `poisonous powder.' The incident came to light around 9 p.m. when the owner of the `mansion,' Devaraj, went to lock the door. He found the couple lying on the floor. Three paper packets were strewn beside them. Devaraj informed the Sriperumpudur police. The bodies were removed to the Government Hospital, Sriperumpudur, where the doctors confirmed that they were dead. Police informed Bangaru's relatives over telephone. The number was obtained from a visiting card in the jeweller's pocket. he bodies were handed over to the relatives after post-mortem on Sunday. Police said that they were yet to confirm how the couple travelled to Sriperumpudur, as the family was refusing to provide details. A case under Section 174 of the IPC has been registered.
