Balyam In a fast changing world of stiff competition, it is often children who face psychological problems related to insecurity. Working parents have little time to spare for their children. Furthering their career prospects becomes the prime concern. This insecurity forms the theme of `Balyam' directed by Jose Nettayam. The script is by Raju Mavumkal. Five-year-old Malu (Riya Jithu) is the only child of Nandan (Jagadeesh) and Renuka (Tara Balachandran). Nandan is an engineer with a construction company and Renuka works for an IT company. Renuka, always bothered about meeting targets and acquiring new business deals, hardly find time for little Malu. She carries work home as well. Looking after the child becomes Nandan's responsibility. Nandan finds it tough to tackle work pressure and domestic chores. Meanwhile, Renuka's company entrusts her with an important assignment that of clinching a business deal with a rich client, Mosambi. If successful, it will give her career a boost. Now, Renuka is busier than ever. She spends a bit too much time conversing with Mosambi on the internet. Malu happens to click the mouse and Mosambi's face pops up on the screen. Soon, she falls ill and starts getting nightmares. The child's nightmares point to the cause of her insecurity. Her mother lavishes attention on Mosambi neglecting Malu in the process. Malu's problems aggravate as her mother goes on a tour to finalise the deal with Mosambi. The cast includes Madhu, Jagathy Sreekumar, Jagannatha Varma and KPAC Lalitha. Lyrics by Biju Bhaskar are set to music by Sajeev Lal. Mazhavil noolu kondu in Manjari's voice is refreshing. The other singer is M.G. Sreekumar. Anil Gopinath wields the camera. `Balyam' is produced by Thankappan of Thakilukottampuram fame.
