`BJP will not be given a chance to head Government'

Staff Correspondent

The Government will fall even before Kumaraswamy completes his term, says Bangarappa

S. Bangarappa

HASSAN: Addressing a large gathering and party workers in Hassan on Saturday, former Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party State President S. Bangarappa said the coalition Government in the State would fall even before the completion of the 20-month tenure of Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy.

The Government is anti-poor and anti-minorities, he said. It had not launched any programme for their welfare, he added.

He chided the BJP saying that it would not get a chance to head the Government, as former Prime Minster H.D. Deve Gowda will prefer going to the polls rather than allowing it (BJP) to rule for 20 months as per the agreement between them.

Mr. Bangarappa said it was not easy to recover encroached land around Bangalore from the land mafia. "Let the Chief Minister publish a list of encroachers. Both the Congress and Janata Dal (S) leaders are involved in this," he said.

Bribery charge

Mr. Bangarappa said a BJP MLC, Janardhan Reddy, had accused the Chief Minister of receiving Rs. 150 crore as bribe from mine owners.

Till this day, the Chief Minister had not come clean in the matter, Mr. Bangarappa said.

On the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor, Mr. Bangarappa blamed former Chief Ministers, including Mr. Deve Gowda, S.M. Krishna and N. Dharam Singh, for giving away 6,000 acres of land belonging to farmers estimated at Rs. 30,000 crore. The people will not pardon them.

Though the required land was 3,000 acres, they had given away 6,000 acres of land. Mr. Bangarappa said if his party comes to power, he would reintroduce 15 per cent grace marks to rural students, free power up to 10 hp to farmers, free power to Bhagyajyothi scheme, and also revive the Ashraya and the Aradhana schemes.

The party's district unit president Bilichodaiah, its State secretary N.S. Hiremath and Rajiv Pujari were present.
