KANNUR: Officers and employees of Gramin banks will observe a national strike on Friday in response to a strike call given by the Joint Forum of Gramin Bank Unions (JFGBU). All Kerala Gramin Bank Staff Federation general secretary C.C. Premaraj said in a press release here on Monday that the main demands being raised by the JFGBU included implementation of banking pension settlement 1993 and 1994 in Gramin banks, parity with sponsor bank employees in payment of all other allowances and benefits, continuance of compassionate appointment scheme of 1982, and proper and uniform manpower planning and promotion policy. The federation also urged the United Progressive Alliance Government to settle the issues of Gramin bank employees who were implementing rural development programmes in the country. Nearly 75,000 Gramin bank officers and employees would participate in the strike, he said.
