126 new telemedicine centres soon

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: Chennai-based telemedicine services provider Space Hospitals plans to set up 126 new telemedicine centres to its existing network across Tamil Nadu by the end of 2007.

The organisation also seeks to establish 38 satellite medical centres and nine regional association hospitals to expand its networking of small and medium healthcare institutions in rural areas to a handful of major hospitals.

Space Hospitals is negotiating with a few major hospitals to join as regional associate partners. "We plan to reach out to every district and small town in Tamil Nadu," A. Sivakumaran, Chief Financial Officer of Space Hospitals, told a press conference on Thursday.

The company currently provides services through an alliance of 14 major super speciality hospitals in India and aims to set up 500 satellite medical centres, 800 telemedicine centres and 40 regional associate hospitals across the country in 2007.
