Puducherry: Members of the Puducherry unit of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) will observe a token fast in front of the Assembly here on January 9 in support of its charter of demands. A release from the general secretary of the AITUC, V.S. Abishegam, said here on Monday that the fast was aimed at seeking regularisation of all workers engaged for more than two years in the civic bodies and panchayats on daily wages, introduction of "Assured Career Progression" scheme for workers who had put in 12 years of service, rectification of anomalies in pay structures and payment of risk allowance of Rs. 750 every month in addition to salaries.
