GULBARGA: The All India Council for Mass Education and Development (AICMED) has selected G.N. Rajashekhar Naidu, secretary of the Karnataka Peoples Forum For Land Rights (KPFLR), for the Dr. Durgabai Deshmukh Award for Excellence given every year for exemplary work in social development in the country. M.C. Reddeppa Reddy, Regional Secretary of the South India Region Committee (SIRC) of AICMED, in a communication sent to Mr. Naidu,. said that the Aaard carrying a gold medal, plaque, commendation certificate and a citation would be presented to Mr. Naidu at the second South Zone Conference on Education for Sustainable Livelihoods in rural areas scheduled to be held at Andhra University in Visakhapatnam that will be held on on January 8. The AICMED based in Kolkata is working in the field of education and development of the masses. It was founded by freedom fighter and the former Union Minister Phulrenu Guha. The theme for the second south zone conference of the AICMED is "Education for Sustainable Livelihoods in Rural areas." It will be held at Andhra University from January 6 to 9. Mr. Naidu has been working for uplift of the deprived sections in rural areas through non-governmental organisation Vidya Liberation Through Cultural Action in Gulbarga for more than a decade. .
