`Vijayotsava' observed on Monday

Staff Correspondent

HUBLI: Various Dalit organisations observed "Vijayotsava" in the twin cities on Monday to mark the revolt of the Dalit soldiers against the caste system in the year 1818.

Members of Dalit organisations burst crackers and distributed sweets after garlanding the statues of B.R. Ambedkar in the twin cities.

Addressing the gathering, leaders described the battle of Dalit soldiers against the soldiers of Maratha Peshwas as a battle against the caste system.

They paid tributes to the martyred soldiers. F.H. Jakkappannavar, Mohan Hiremani, Prakash Kyarakatti, Laxman Doddamani and others took part in the "vijayotsava" celebrations.

Similar programmes were organised by Dalit organisations in Dharwad and other parts of the district.
