BELGAUM: A two-day "National Seminar on Roads-2007" will be organised in the city on March 1 and 2. The event is being organised by Belgaum local centre of Institution of Engineers.

According to PWD executive engineer Vinayak Sugur and IoE sources here on Monday, the seminar is being organised with the objective of providing information on fundamental and applied technologies on road construction. It is also expected to give a unique opportunity to local engineers, contractors and other officials concerned of various Government departments to interact with experts in the field. There will be technical sessions by experts on different topics on road construction, maintenance and repairs.

Experts such as L.R. Kadiyali, chief executive of Kadiyali Associates, New Delhi; T. Sanyal, retd. chief engineer and Geotech Adviser; Pradeep Chaudhary of Geotech Cell, Kolkata; Vivian Robert, Prakash, engineers; Vijay Kumar of Scott Wilson Krickpartic, United Kingdom; Krishnamurthy, consultant of UVCE, Bangalore; managing director of KMC Constructions Ltd., Hyderabad; Vikram Reddy, chief engineer (NH) and R.R. Doddihal from Bangalore will participate in the seminar.

It is being organised with a view to increasing central and state governments interest in developing a network of quality roads in rural areas under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), State Highway Improvement Programmes in every State and a world class highways under the National Highways Development Programme.
