TIRUPATI: State Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader P. Somayya underscored the need for the emergence of a third political alternative at the Centre and State. Unless a third alternative emerged, there would be very little scope for the alternative policy initiatives vis-a-vis the core issues, he said at the district party workers meeting here on Sunday. Mr. Somayya visualised the New Year shaping itself as the year of `agitations' and said that undue haste and utter contempt with which especially the State Government was pushing through its agenda were enough indications of the imminent spurt in the agitations. District leaders R. Harikrishna, Venkatarathnam, Kumar Reddy and Chaithanya spoke.
