KURNOOL: District secretary of Andhra Pradesh Farm Workers Union K. Ramanjaneyulu (CPI) has urged the authorities to take stringent action against the landlords who have beaten up migrant workers at Vempenta in Pamulapadu mandal. In a statement on Monday, he said eight workers, including a woman, were injured in the attack, which was carried out without much provocation. According to him, the workers who migrated from Chinna Dornala in Prakasam district for harvest operations to Vempenta asked the farmers to speed up threshing operations as they had to attend prayer in the evening.
Skirmish
This led to an altercation between workers and farmers, which led to a skirmish. Farmers numbering about 20, armed with clubs, chased the workers and beat them up.
Incident condemned
The farm workers' wings of CPI and CPI (M) condemned the incident and demanded stringent action against the landlords who beat up women and children, too. The incident had occurred as the authorities failed to provide any security to migrant workers.
