HYDERABAD: A global business forum - paving the way for about 100 one-on-one meetings for collaboration, strategic alliances and business development and outsourcing - will be one of the highlights at a three-day BioAsia-2007 between February 15 and 17 at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre, Hitec City. Participants can visit the site www.biopartnering.com and prepare for meetings with potential partners. Subscribers can access the password-protected area of the site and explore research-partnering opportunities. They can also access detailed profiles of all companies apart from contacting other users, scheduling meetings by reserving space at an event. At BioAsia 2006 there were over 80 meetings, out of which 40 were foreign companies.
Fourth edition
Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy will inaugurate the forum jointly organised by the Federation of Asian Biotech Association (FABA), Andhra Pradesh Government and University of Hyderabad. The fourth edition of BioAsia here, it is supported by the European Federation of Bio-technology, according to a press release. The other highlight will be a session on business opportunities in Asia with FABA as the facilitator and participation by Pakistan, Malaysia, Iran, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, China and Taiwan, which are members of the association. Canada, Finland and Holland will be among the first-time participants.
Bio-business sessions
There will be sessions on bio-business, new frontiers in bio-technology, and bio-business opportunities in agri-biotechnology. The special session on `bio-business funding opportunities' will feature vice-chancellors and technology transfer advisers, who will share expectations with entrepreneurs on making business ideas a reality and available funding options. Experts to be present include M.K. Bhan, Secretary, Department of Bio-technology, Anwar Nassim, chairman, National Commission of Bio-technology, Pakistan, Andrew Parratt, director, Institute of Bio-technology, Deakin University, Australia, Chris Lowe, director, Institute of Bio-technology, University of Cambridge, Rodney Carbis of International Vaccine Institute, Korea and Wu Xinzhong of Genetic Engineering Laboratory, Zhejiang University, Hanzhou, China. Prominent speakers include G.S. Reddy of Brown University, USA, C.V. Rao, Director, Chemoprevention Programme, University of Oklahoma Cancer Institute and Narender Gaava of Amgen Inc.,USA.
