Film festival to begin on January 11

KOZHIKODE: The International Film Festival being conducted as part of the Malabar Shopping Festival will be screened at the Tagore Hall from January 11.

The drama festival will be staged at the Model High School ground from January 12, M. Anil Kumar, convener and district youth coordinator, Nehru Yuva Kendra, said here on Monday.

The film festival will comprise sections such as Indian Panorama, 50 years of Malayalam cinema, World classics, and regional language cinema.

More than 40 films will be screened.

As many as seven plays will be staged at the drama festival.

Both professional and amateur plays, including `Kanne madanguga'(Nadaka Nilayam, Angamali, January 12) `Sneha Rajyam' (Yuga Chetana, Tirur, January 13); `Pirana' (Sanga Chetana, Kannur, January 14); `Asthamikkatha suryan' (KPAC, January 15); `Kottayathu Thampuran' (Aksharakala ,Thiruvananthapuram, January 16); `Jnanapeetam' (Sangam Theatres, Kozhikode, January 17); `Seethashaptham' (Vanita Sahithi, Kozhikode); `Pavathan Nadu'(Deshaposhini Vayanasala, Kozhikode) are the plays.

Open fora and discussions are also planned as part of the film and drama festival.

The joint conveners are Chelavoor Venu (Film); Babu Parassery (Theatre); Kattayat Venugopal (Folk arts).
