TRCCC takes up Inchampalli's cause

Staff Reporter

Leaders want the project executed on par with Polavaram

KARIMNAGAR: The multi-purpose Inchampalli project on the Godavari has again assumed significance for the Telangana Regional Congress Coordination Committee leaders. They reportedly raised the issue in a recent meeting and demanded that the Government execute that project on par with the Polavaram one.

In 2001, the Congress legislators from Telangana had taken out a padayatra to the Inchamapalli project site trekking the dense forests demanding that the then TDP Government execute the project for utilisation of surplus Godavari water.

However, after attaining power the Congress had shelved the issue.

Now, with TRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao winning the Karimnagar byelections, the Telangana Congress leaders are taking it up again.

They said that SRSP, the only major irrigation project on the Godavari in Telangana, was under threat due to the illegal Babli project in Maharashtra and formation of silt, reducing the storage capacity. Inchampalli is the only alternative for irrigating Telangana utilising the Godavari waters, they argued.
