Sathyabama wins

Dindigul: Sathyabama University lifted the Rtn. G. Sundararajan Mani Vizha Trophy defeating Sethu Institute of Technology, Kariapatti, 66-29 in the last match of the semifinal league for its third win in the 13th annual State-level open basketball tournament here on Sunday.

The results: Sathyabama University 66 (Swaninathan 16, Ramadoss 14) bt Sethu Institute 29 (Santhana Bharathi 12); Young Stars BC 77 (Prem 22, Mahendran 17) bt Gandhigram Rural Institute 55 (Chandru 15, Chandra Prakash 13). Placings: 1. Sathyabhama University, 2. Young Stars, 3. Sethu Inst. Tech., 4. Gandhigram RI.

Easy for St.Peter's

St. Peter's Cricket Club, Kodaikanal, chalked out an emphatic nine-wicket victory over Nike CC, Oddanchatram, in the DDCA first division league at Dindigul on Monday.

The scores: Nike CC, Oddanchatram, 76 in 16.1 overs (B. Gopi four for 18) lost to St. Peter's CC, Kodaikanal, 79 for one in 11.3 overs (M. Sheik Abdullah 36 not out). Second division: National CC 133 for six in 16 overs (P. Karthik 47) lost to Sri Vasantha Sweets CC 134 for five in 23.4 overs (W.R. Arun Pious 46, S. Veerappan scalps five

Veerappan's five for 19 helped Karaikudi Town Cricket Club carve out an eight-wicket victory over Moonlight CC in the Sivagangai District Cricket Association `A' division league at Karaikudi recently.

The scores: `A' Division: Moonlight CC 88 in 22.5 overs (Veerappan five for 19) lost to Karaikudi Town CC 89 for two in 14.4 overs; TCPL Knights CC 279 in 44.5 overs (Jalaluddin 90, Varadharajan 53, Balasundaram 43) bt APTech WBC Software CC 235 for eight in 45 overs (Tamil 48, Shankar four for 45); Oscar CC 182 for eight in 38 overs (Kannan 83 not out) lost to Karaikudi Town CC 186 for five in 31.4 overs.

`B' Division: Sekkalai CC 209 in 32.5 overs bt Sivagangai Optra Computers CC 115 in 20.2 overs (N. Saravanan 44, C.S. Anand Kumar four for 20); Newland CC, Puduvayal, 139 in 26.5 overs (N. Ramesh wins

N. Ramesh Kumar emerged Dindigul Active Chess Champion by winning in the open category of the Active Food Support open chess tournament at Dindigul on Sunday.
