PALAKKAD: The Palakkad First Class Judicial Magistrate court on Monday granted bail to Deputy Speaker Jose Baby and 15 others in a case related to alleged destruction of cola drinks at a shop at Olavakkode here in 2005. The Deputy Speaker and the others were accused of entering a shop and destroying Coca-Cola and Pepsi cola drinks. The case was filed by the shop owner. The Deputy Speaker said that as part of the agitation, they asked shop owners to stop selling cola drinks as these were injurious to health. The agitation was against the Coca-Cola bottling unit at Plachimada and the Pepsi cola unit at Kanjikode, which were accused of exploiting ground water, affecting the drinking and irrigation needs of the local people. Those who were granted bail included KAMCO chairman V. Chamunni, CPI district assistant secretary Suresh Raj, economist P.A. Vasudevan, and Plachimada Anti-Coca-Cola Agitation Committee patron Vilayodi Venugopal.
