KOZHIKODE: The Sree Narayana Dharm Asram in Palani will celebrate its golden jubilee on January 8, it was announced here on Monday. The ashram was established in 1956 to commemorate the visit of Sree Narayana Guru to Bharati Nagar in Palani. Raman Pillai and Raman Vaidyar from Kochi and Raman Sami from Kanni bought 22 cents there and built a small building to house the ashram. More rooms were added to the building later. Now, it is a resting place for pilgrims from Kerala who reach Palani to offer worship at the temple there. It is also a centre to propagate the teachings of Sree Narayana Guru in Tamil Nadu and a venue for marriages and other social functions, said K. Kunhiraman, secretary, Sri Narayana Dharma Ashrama Samithi, Kozhikode. The ashram in Palani is manned by a manager and a guide who helps Keralites visiting Palani. During the golden jubilee year of the ashram, the Sree Narayana Hall there would be developed further and Sree Narayana Guru's teachings translated into Tamil. Gokulam Gopalan, member, managing committee, Guruvayur Devaswom, would inaugurate the golden jubilee on January 8.
