BERHAMPUR: The festivities for the Eid-ul-Juha by Muslims of the city on Monday were subdued due to the pain and agony caused by the hasty execution of Saddam Hussain in Iraq. The youths of the community preferred to celebrate the day as a day of protest against the execution of the Iraqi leader at the instigation of America. Hasan Ali, a youth with a cultural bent of mind, who also happens to be the dramatic secretary of the Lingaraj Law College said this year the Muslim youths decided to do away with all extra celebrations like parties, lavish food, enjoyments like Mushayara and Qawali night during Eid-ul-juha celebrations as a mark of respect to the slain Iraqi leader.
Rally taken out
After Id Namaz the Muslims took out a rally and public meeting at Khaja street chaired by S.M.Hussain. The speakers at this meeting said Saddam's hasty execution, which also speaks of the imperialistic attitude of US President George Bush has hurt every Muslim. Hussain said America would have to face the outcome of this misdeed in future. In the evening they took out a mock funeral rally of the US President and burnt his effigy at Khaja Street square. But all religious ceremonies, including the qurbani and special namaz for the Id-ul-juha celebrations continued as per the schedule. Thousands of Muslims of the city and its adjoining areas turned up at various mosques of the city, Indira Priyadarshini park and Badi Idgah maidan to offer their Id namaz. Largest number of people gathered for `namaz' at Badi Idgah maidan.
