Search launched for attackers

Staff Reporter

BERHAMPUR: The Ganjam police have launched an intensive search operation in villages under the Khallikote police station to nab the culprits behind the attack by Haripur villagers on Tulasipur and Bhakutidiha villages on Sunday.

The attack resulted in the death of two persons. While 12 houses were torched, around 25 persons, including ten children, injured. Six of the seriously injured persons were shifted to the MKCG Medical College Hospital. Some of the attackers from Haripur were injured as bombs they carried went off accidentally.

A platoon of armed police is still deployed near Haripur and Tulasipur villages. Political rivalry is said to be the cause behind the attack.

According to a senior police officer , the availability of explosive chemicals and cracker making units at rural areas of Ganjam district is a catalyst for the manufacturing of crude bombs in rural areas which are freely used during village clashes.
