CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government on Monday revised the rates for providing supplementary nutrition to children below six years , adolescent girls and pregnant and lactating women. Social Welfare Minister Kartar Devi said the rates for providing supplementary nutrition for children had been increased from Rs. 2 to Rs. 3 per day per beneficiary and in case of pregnant and nursing women and adolescent girls these had been doubled to Rs. 5 per day. Supplementary nutrition was the major service being provided under the Integrated Child Development Services Scheme (ICDS) to about 11 lakh children and 3 lakh pregnant and lactating women and adolescent girls through more than 16,000 anganwadi centres in the State, she said.
Formal launch
She further said that the programme for providing supplementary nutrition through Women Self Help Groups would be formally launched on January 3 at Rasoi village in district Sonipat.
More jobs
It has also been decided to dispense with the existing centralised system of procuring food items for ICDS beneficiaries and to entrust the responsibility for preparation of food items to Women Self Groups or Mother's Groups. This would generate employment for 75,000 women in the State.
