DMRC seeks bids for airport link

Staff Reporter

To design, supply, install, commission all systems

NEW DELHI: Moving ahead with the 19 km "Airport Express Link" that will connect New Delhi railway station to Indira Gandhi International Airport here, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has invited bids from Indian and foreign firms or consortiums of firms to design, supply, install, commission and operate all systems except civil works.

This high-speed corridor will have trains travelling at a maximum speed of 135 km per hour and covering the distance in just 16 minutes.

Responsibilities

The concessionaire engaged will be responsible for installation of all systems including rolling stock, overhead electrification, track, signalling and telecommunication, ventilation and air-conditioning, automatic fare collection, baggage check-in and handling, depot and other facilities and for commissioning and operating the system for 30 years, which would include the construction time.

The designing and construction of the basic civil structure will be done by the DMRC and these will then be made available to the concessionaire.

The Expression of Interest documents will go on sale from January 10. The qualification condition for the concessionaire firm or one of the consortium members is that they should have executed at least one such project or operated and maintained such a project or should have been a major supplier of equipment for a rail-based transit system which was successfully implemented.

19 km-corridor

The link between New Delhi railway station and Indira Gandhi International Airport will be about 19 km long and comprise underground and elevated sections. There will be intermediate stations at Shivaji Stadium and Moti Bagh. Trains will cover the entire distance in 16 minutes flat and check-in facilities will be available at New Delhi, Shivaji Stadium and Moti Bagh stations.

The DMRC will also shortlist, through global pre-qualification, tunnelling contractors of international repute for the underground works of the "Airport Express Link".
