Nirankari Baba hopes for love, peace

NEW DELHI: Baba Hardev Singhji Maharaj of Sant Nirankari Mission has in his New Year message expressed the hope that 2007 will bring in a resolution for love, peace and universal brotherhood.

Expressing concern over growing instances of violence across the world, the Baba emphasised the need to conquer the feeling of jealousy, hatred, intolerance and narrow-mindedness.

DPCC chief's birthday celebrated

NEW DELHI: A function was organised by the Rashtriya Vishwas Vichar Manch here on Monday to mark the birthday of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ram Babu Sharma.

A number of Congress workers, including MPs, MLAs and Municipal Councillors participated in the function. Cutting a 51-kg cake, the DPCC president promised to work relentlessly to solve the problems faced by the Capital's residents.

Federation governing body elected

NEW DELHI: Shankar Bhan has been elected the new chairman of the Federation of Cooperative Group Housing Societies Mayur Vihar. The federation represents 22 cooperative group housing societies of Mayur Vihar Phase I.

Ummed Singh and Alok Bhattacharya have been elected vice-chairmen, Y.P. Sood general secretary, M.R. Sharma treasurer and A.K. Jain secretary.

`Check abdominal obesity'

NEW DELHI: "The longer the waistline, the shorter the lifeline," said Heart Care Foundation of India president K.K. Aggarwal here on Monday.

Dr. Aggarwal said as per the new guidelines for Indians, the abdominal circumference should be less than 35 inches for men and 32 inches for women. "Adopting this criteria can reduce cardiovascular burden by over 50 per cent. Abdominal obesity is responsible for high blood pressure, cholesterol and heart disease."

Support for traders

New Delhi: Advocating formulation of favourable policies for domestic trade, management guru and motivator Shiv Khera on Monday launched the observation of `Traders Dignity Year 2007'. "There is need for the Government to formulate policies which strengthen domestic trade and are favourable to it," Khera said at a function here organised by the CAIT.

Execution condemned

NEW DELHI: The Central Executive Committee of the Students' Federation of India has condemned the execution of Saddam Hussein and decided to observe Tuesday as a day of protest here in the Capital. SFI general secretary K.K. Ragesh said the execution of Saddam Hussein was "judicial assassination".
