Excellence Award for three artists

CHENNAI:
The Nungambakkam Cultural Academy Trust on Monday honoured three eminent persons by presenting the "Excellence Award" at its 37th Anniversary and Fine Arts Festival here.
The award, which carries a medallion, a citation and Rs.5,000, was presented to O.S. Arun, Jayarama Sarma and Kovai Padmanabhan. The citations read out said the three were being honoured in recognition of their outstanding contribution for several decades to Carnatic music, upanyasam (discourse) and Tamil theatre.
Music and spiritualism
Giving away the awards, S. Mohan, former Judge of the Supreme Court, said music and spiritualism were closely associated.
Spreading spiritualism among the people was the objective of musicians and those who delivered discourses.
Nalli Kuppuswami Chetty, president of the Trust, introduced the award winners.
A. Natarajan, former Director, Doordarshan Kendra, Chennai, was among those who felicitated the artists.
S. Venkataraman, joint secretary of the Trust, said 725 artists would participate in this year's music festival.
