Corrections and Clarifications

* A sentence in "`Order on apprentice will leave workers unprotected'" (Delhi, January 2, 2007, page 1) was: "V. Lakshminarayanan raised an industrial tribute as the National Small Industries Corporation, which appointed him apprentice, did not regularise his services." It should have been "an industrial dispute".

* A sentence in a report "`Aged parents entitled to part of pension'" (December 30, 2006) was: "He said: `Old parents who take care of children and bring them up by great sacrifice should not be left in the lurch in their heyday.'" It was an error and was quoted from a summary of the judgment. In the original judgment, the quote was: ""He said: `The old parents who take care of the children and bring them up by great sacrifice in their heydays should not be left in lurch.'"

* A sentence in "Dump BJP, Mayawati asks Vaishyas" (December 29, 2006) was: "Asking the Vaishyas, considered traditional supporters of the BJP, to shed their apprehension that their business would suffer if they joined the BJP, Ms. Mayawati alleged that the Samajwadi Party harmed Baniya interests." It should have been "Asking the Vaishyas ... to shed their apprehension that their business would suffer if they joined the BSP [Bahujan Samaj Party] ... ."

* In The Hindu Crossword 8799 ("Variety page, January 1, 2007), clue 2 Down was "Unit of flow used in Syracuse colleges (7)". The number of letters indicated should have been five, as the solution ("Variety" page, January 2, 2007) was "Cusec".

* In "Corrections and Clarifications" (January 2, 2007), a sentence should have been "A skeleton itself may not be permanent as acids, especially in soil, can reduce it to unrecognisable components", and not "A skeleton itself may not be not permanent as acids, especially in soil, can reduce it to unrecognisable components."

It is the policy of The Hindu to correct significant errors as soon as possible. Please specify the edition (place of publication), date and page.
