Kolkata: The status report on the acquisition of land for the proposed Tata car factory at Singur in West Bengal's Hooghly district was released by the State Government here on Tuesday. As per the report, 997.11 acres of land spread across five mouzas in Singur has already been acquired by the State Government. It had also given "permissive possession" (which entitles a land owner to enter the premises without a formal agreement) to Tata Motors on December 27 which enabled it to carry out a topographical survey and soil testing for the project. The Trinamool Congress, spearheading the agitation against the alleged forcible acquisition of land at Singur, has been demanding the release of the status report as well as the list of people who have willingly given up their land to the Government. Of the Rs. 119 crore allocated as compensation money for the land acquisition, Rs. 83 crorehave been disbursed, the report said.
Consent letters
Consent letters had also been collected for the land, though seeking individual consent was not required under the provisions of the Land Acquisition Act, said a State official. The State Government would shortly come out with a list of people who have given up their land willingly for the proposed factory. The formal handover of land at Singur to the Tatas is expected to be completed within this month.
