MLAs for `Greater Rayalaseema'

KURNOOL: Congress MLAs Gangula Pratap Reddy (Allagadda) and Erasu Pratap Reddy (Atmakur) brought forth the `Greater Rayalaseema' demand in the event of separation of Telangana from the State. Talking to reporters along with Zilla Parishad Chairman L. Venkata Swamy here on Tuesday, they said the State should remain one or break into three if separation was inevitable. They said `Greater Rayalaseema' with four Rayalaseema districts, Prakasam and Nellore with capital at Tirupati was feasible. - Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy released the New Year diary brought out by the Telangana Municipal Employees' Association (TMEA) at his camp office on Tuesday. Civic DE detained

KADAPA: CPI activists detained Kadapa Municipal Corporation DE Siva Nagendra for nearly three hours in Palempalle here, protesting against poor drainage system leading to drain water entering Chenchu Colony in Palempalle. Farmer ends life

KURNOOL: A farmer identified as Chennaiah (45) committed suicide by consuming poison at Pandikona in Pathikonda mandal of Kurnool district on Tuesday. Mounting debts due to losses in agriculture were said to be the reason. In another incident, a farmer Mallaiah Swamy (55) of Malkapuram near Yemmiganur attempted suicide by consuming pesticide. - Special Correspondent

HRF plea

HYDERABAD: The Human Rights Forum has appealed to Home Minister K. Jana Reddy to treat the period spent in remand as part of the sentence for all purposes, while granting remission to convicts serving life sentence. It welcomed the Government's decision to grant remission to convicts serving long sentences. - Special Correspondent

IGNOU exams

HYDERABAD: The practical exams of BCA/MCA of IGNOU are scheduled to begin on Saturday at notified centres in Nellore, Vijayawada, Guntur, Warangal, Anantapur, Kurnool, Visakhapatnam, Khammam and Hyderabad. Those taking the exams have to go to their respective centres on Thursday to know their batch and timings. - Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Civil rights activists, who participated in the historic talks between the State Government and Maoists in October, 2004, have decided to bring out details of the dialogue in book form. Two killed in accidents

KADAPA: Two persons were killed in two accidents in the district in the last two days. Mohan (20) of Saraswathipalle Dalitawada in Ramapuram mandal was killed when a tractor overturned near Billiguttucheruvu on Tuesday. Subbamma (40) of Maruthinagar in Kadapa was killed and her two brothers -- Ayyavaru (35) and Srinath (25) -- sustained injuries when their motorcycle dashed against a lorry at Kanumulopalle in Siddhavatam mandal on Monday.— Staff Reporter

Civic body's plea

HINDUPUR: The Municipal Council of Hindupur on Tuesday passed a resolution unanimously seeking the State Government to conduct a re-survey for division and reservation of wards as irregularities had taken place in the exercise. Councillors led by Chairperson Subhan Seth also passed a resolution to check the irregularities in enrolment of voters. — Staff Reporter

AISF protest

ANANTAPUR: AISF activists staged a protest here on Tuesday demanding the State Government to reclaim about 34 acres of land allegedly occupied illegally by a voluntary organisation. The organisation was running a high school and a home for the aged on the said land.— Staff Reporter

Woman's body found

KURNOOL: A married woman, identified as Laxmi Devi (19), died under mysterious circumstances at Perayapalle near Allagadda in Kurnool district on Tuesday. The police recovered the body and sent for post mortem. — Special Correspondent

Naxal cremated

NALGONDA: One of the three Maoists killed in an encounter at Kukunoor in Khammam district on Sunday has been identified as Kranti alias Boddu Ramalingaiah of Nalgonda district. He hailed from Ootkur of Saligowraram mandalRamalingaiah reportedly escaped from police at least for three times. He was cremated in his village on Tuesday, according to the Officer on Special Duty Venkateswarlu.

WARANGAL: K Srinivasa Rao, a senior grade officer of Indian Information Service (IIS) assumed charge as field publicity officer, Warangal. Mr Rao will publicise the schemes of Central Government in Warangal and Karimnagar districts . — Staff Reporter

`Chaitanya Yathra' launched

Kakinada: The agricultural labourers' week long `Chaitanya Yathra' programme in the district aimed at focusing the attention of the Government on the problems faced by the agricultural labourers and also the entire farming community has been formally launched here on Tuesday. All set for temple festival

Kakinada: The arrangements to be made for the ensuing Lakshminarasimha Swamy annual festival from January 25 till February 3 have been reviewed at a high-level meeting held at the TTD Kalyanamandapam in Antharvedi on Tuesday. District Collector M. Subrahmanyam, SP Battini Srinivasulu and Zilla Parishad Chairman Ch. S. Venu Gopalakrishna attended. Music contest winners

Kakinada: The State-level music competitions held under the aegis of Abhyudaya Foundation concluded here on Monday. Badam Madhava Rao, Chairman of the Foundation announced the names of seven winners from four different events. They are Praneeth-Veena Juniors, V Sunita- veena seniors, M. Sri Ramya- violin juniors, V.R.V.S. Pavan Kumar Charan - violin seniors, E.Sri Poornima- flute juniors, Bhavana Ramesh music vocal juniors and M. Sridevi Music vocal seniors. D.V. Krishnam Raju gave away prizes and appreciation certificates to all the winners.

VIZIANAGARAM: M.V.G.R. College of Engineering is organising national level students technical symposium (SPACE TECH-07) at its administrative block on Wednesday. P.L.P.
