TIRUVANNAMALAI: The Tiruvannamalai Collector, Satyabrata Sahoo, warned that stringent action would be taken against the owners of autorickshaws, who used liquefied petroleum gas as fuel. Presiding over a consultative meeting held at the Collectorate here recently in connection with the road safety week celebrations, the Collector said that the licences of those autorickshaws would be cancelled. Besides, the giant advertisement hoardings, cut-outs and digital banners, which obstructed traffic, would be removed. Push carts, which obstructed free flow of traffic on Polur Road, Theradi Street, Big Street, Kadalaikkadai Junction, Kosamadam Street, Anna Road and the bus stand, would also be removed. Yellow automatic lights would be installed at the junctions of all main roads leading to the Tiruvannamalai town. Temporary bus stands would be set up for the benefit of pilgrims visiting the Sri Arunachaleswara Temple, the Collector said. As part of the celebrations, bull's eye stickers would be pasted on the headlamps of vehicles. A procession of share-autos carrying road safety messages would be taken out on January 4. Regional Transport Officer Rajendran, Chief Education Officer V. Balamurugan, Municipal Commissioner Natarajan and Public Relations Officer M. Vijayakumar participated. Vehicles would be checked and cases booked for violation of traffic rules on January 6.
