TRS plans stir against bus depot closure

Staff Reporter

Most depots to be closed are in Telangana: Harish Rao

MAKING IT CLEAR: RTC wokers protest in front of Karimnagar RTC depot on Tuesday against the closure of Husnabad RTC depot.

Sangareddy: Former minister and TRS leader T. Harish Rao announced a district-wide agitation protesting against closure of APSRTC bus depots in Telangana districtsincluding Dubbaka depot in Medak. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Mr. Rao pointed out that majority of the depots earmarked for closure were in Telangana and TRS would take up this issue in the forthcoming budget session in February. He criticised the Government for reverting to centralised management of bus service where as decentralised depots like Dubbaka had been making profits.

He alleged that the Government under the diktats of the World Bank was on the verge of privatising the Corporation.

Mr. Rao said that TRS would take up the issue of Pothireddypadu during the proposed Palle Baata programme commencing from Mahboobnagar, Nalgonda and Khammam.

He announced that the party was keen on highlighting the issue after the success of `Maha Dharna.' The party would launch a massive awareness campaign against the "evil design of the Chief Minister to plunder river water," he added.

Trouble in Dubbaka

With the all-party representation to the Chief Minister seeking deferment of Dubbaka depot closure, the protesters forcibly closed down Government offices in Dubbaka town on Monday. They attacked the MRO office and ransacked the furniture. Earlier on Monday the town observed a token bandh against the RTC move.
