Spotlight on playwright

NEW DELHI: The Developing Countries Research Centre, Delhi University, and Cornell University are organising a three-day international conference here in the Capital beginning Wednesday in memory of Sisir Kumar Das, eminent playwright and critic.

The conference will be inaugurated at India Habitat Centre on Wednesday and will shift to Delhi University for the next two days.

DDA gets a new Finance Member

NEW DELHI: An Indian Audit and Account Services officer of the 1979 batch, Nand Lal, has taken over as Finance Member of the Delhi Development Authority. His last posting before joining the DDA was as Principal Accountant-General of Gujarat, Ahmedabad.

According to a DDA release, Mr. Lal has vast and varied experience of working in various capacities in different States and also on foreign assignments.

Self-defence camp concludes

NEW DELHI: A 15-day self-defence camp organised by a non-government organisation, Sampurna, at Badli village here ended on Tuesday.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime Against Women Cell) J.S. Vadya addressing the girl trainees said that for India to become a world power, education of women was necessary. Nearly 200 adolescent girls participated in the camp.

Held for robbery

New Delhi: Three Bangladeshis were arrested on Tuesday in connection with a robbery in the New Friends Colony here. Police recovered looted cash, a leather purse and a mobile set from Mohammed Hanif, Mohammed Niham and Mohammed Shakoor, a release from police said.
