SETTING THE STAGE: Mar Thoma Syrian Christian Evangelistic Association president Joseph Mar Ireneus Suffragan Metropolitan inaugurating the work on the pandal for the Maramon Convention on the Pampa riverbed at Maramon, near Kozhencherry, on Tuesday.
PATHANAMTHITTA: The Mar Thoma Syrian Christian Evangelistic Association that organises the Maramon Convention on the Pampa riverbed at Maramon, near Kozhencherry, has started preparations for the annual event. Association president Joseph Mar Ireneus Suffragan Metropolitan inaugurated the work of the large pandal that could accommodate as many as one lakh people at a function on Tuesday.
The levelling of the riverbed with the help of an earthmover was under way and the pandal will be ready by February first week, the organisers said.
The meet, billed Asia's largest annual Christian religious congregation, will be held from February 11 to 18.
Evangelists Rev Dr Samuel Kobia, general secretary of the World Council of Churches (WCC), Bishop Robert M. Solomon of the Singapore Methodist Church, R.Rajkumar of Logos Ministries in New Delhi and Annie Lotz (U.S.) will address the meet.
