Journalists stage protest in Hassan

HASSAN: Journalists staged a dharna outside the Deputy Commissioner's office here on Tuesday protesting against the assault on an ETV reporter in Bada village near Dharwad.

The culprits reportedly damaged cameras valued at Rs. 80,000 belonging to Shivalinga Patil and Rs. 30,000 belonging to Govindaraj, respectively. The press team went to the village to report an incident where a gopuram was reportedly damaged by some miscreants.

Speaking to The Hindu , Home Minister M.P. Prakash who was touring in his constituency in Hadagalli taluk in Bellary district has condemned the attack on journalists and said he would direct police in Dharwad to arrest the accused.

Call for action

In a representation presented to Chief Minister through the Deputy Commissioner, the District Journalists' Association led by former president Venkatesh Murthy, editor of Janata Madhyama, demanded action against the accused besides giving protection to journalists who were the victims of assault.

Reporter Srinivasa Gowda from ETV and other journalists were present.

Deputy Commissioner K.H. Ashwathanarayana Gowda who received the representation said he would forward it to Chief Minister.
