KHAMMAM: The State Government would make a budgetary allocation of Rs 1000 crores during 2007-2008 for the implementation of the Rajiv Sagar (Dummugudem) lift irrigation project and Indira Sagar (Rudramkota) Lift Irrigation project in Khammam district. The Chief Minister, Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy gave a categorical assurance to a delegation of Congress MLAs from Khammam that met him in Hyderabad today, according to the Sathupalli MLA, Jalagam Venkata Rao.
Schedule
Quoting the Chief Minister, he said the works on both the lift schemes would be taken up before Ugadi, the Telugu New Year Day. The projects would be completed as per the schedule within two years. By all means both the schemes would be made operational before Ugadi in 2009. Both the schemes would get an immediate budgetary allocation of Rs 500 crores each. He said that the delegation that included the Khammam zilla parishad chairperson, G. Vijayalakshmi, had requested the Chief Minister to set a date for the Bhumi Puja of the projects.

The Chief Minister had laid the foundation stones for the two schemes on December 31, 2005. The schemes were expected to help extend irrigation facility to over 4 lakh acres in Khammam district alone. The delegation had thanked the Chief Minister for his initiative in monitoring the progress of the project works personally.
