SHIMLA: Moninder Pandher, the Noida resident accused of serial murders, lived in Shimla during his school days. He studied here at the prestigious Bishop Cotton School from 1963 to 1973 after which he graduated from the well-known St. Stephen's College in New Delhi. According to classmates, he was nicknamed Goldie Pandher in school and was a normal student. A shocked classmate said they had been in touch for quite sometime after leaving school but had no explanation for the turn of events. He said Pandher had a disturbed childhood and turned a heavy drinker, though there were no signs of a mental disorder. Another schoolmate recalled, "I remember him as a very tolerant senior boy in school and find it hard to believe that he has become a paedophile and psychopath." The Bishop Cotton School was founded in 1859 and is one of the oldest, best known boarding schools in India. Pandher's son too recently passed out from the same school. After graduating Pandher inherited a successful family transport business, spread across Delhi, Noida, Chandigarh, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. Pandher's estranged wife and son live in Chandigarh.
