MYSORE: Former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah called on Mysore City Police Commissioner Pravin Sood and Superintendent of Mysore district Police S. Murugan at their respective offices in the city on Tuesday to complain against the "partisan" attitude of the police force. Mr. Siddaramaiah alleged that Congress workers were being targeted after a series of clashes in Mysore during and after the recent bypoll to the Chamundeshwari Assembly constituency. He told the police officials that the police had been rounding up and booking cases against only Congress workers and allowing the Janata Dal (Secular) workers to go scot-free. Mr. Siddaramaiah said the Congress would be forced to resort to an agitation if the police continued their "partisan" attitude. But, the police officials cited cases in Hootagalli and a few other areas, where cases had been booked against JD(S) workers. Mr. Siddaramaiah also urged the police officials to release Congress workers, who had been taken into custody. "Instead of harassing them in custody, you should release them if there is no case against them," he said. Meanwhile, Mr. Siddaramaiah's aide and AHINDA's Youth Wing president Appanna said the police in Mysore had booked eight cases against him and the vice-president of Mysore Zilla Panchayat Marigowda. "A case has been foisted against me in connection with an event which took place when I was in New Delhi. The police had started targeting me and Marigowda even before the bypoll," he told The Hindu .
