"Padma Sadhana" title conferred on Vijay Siva, Sailaja

CHENNAI:
Former Judge of the Madras High Court T.V. Masilamani conferred the title of "Padma Sadhana" on N. Vijay Siva (Carnatic music) and Sailaja (Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam) on Monday.
A shawl, a citation and prize money of Rs.5,000 each were given to both artists.
The honours have been instituted by the Padma Sarangapani Cultural Academy at Virugambakkam. While Mr. Siva was honoured in recognition of his outstanding performance and for preserving traditional music, Ms. Sailaja was awarded for her outstanding performance as a dancer. Mr. Masilamani said cultural organisations such as the Padma Sarangapani Cultural Academy played a vital role in encouraging artists. K.A. Pakkirisamy Bharathi, Principal, Tamil Nadu Music College; Academy chairman S. Varadan; Academy directors Priya J. Krishnan and V. Jayakrishnan spoke.
