Papanasam Sivan award for violin maestro

CHENNAI
: The Papanasam Sivan award was conferred on violin maestro M. Chandrasekaran at the 17th annual music festival conducted by the Papanasam Sivan Carnatic Sangeetha Sabha at suburban Madipakkam on Tuesday.
The award was presented to the violinist by former Chief Election Commissioner T. N. Seshan. The award includes a citation and a purse of Rs. 5000.
Inaugurating the music festival, Srirangam Srimath Andavan Swamigal Sri Ranga Ramanuja Maha Desikan said the legendary Papanasam Sivan had laid a good path for his followers to walk on through his lyrics. He wanted Carnatic music to be nourished more. "And our treasure of music has to preserved," he noted.
Mr. Seshan said the award in the name of lyricist Papanasam Sivan had gained credit as it was being conferred on an accomplished violinist endowed with great musical knowledge.
Others, who felicitated the musician, included Mannai S. Ramachandran, founder of the sabha,
A. V. Seshadri, general secretary, Sree Sath Sangam, N. Thyagarajan and Ramesh Raghavan, sabha president and secretary respectively.
