In response to the article on the state of auditoriums in the city, which appeared in the Public Eye column last Wednesday, Jayanagar Study Centre's Secretary, G.S. Narayanan says that The Hindu has opened the "public eye." One never thought that there was so much to talk about on places of entertainment. Though we have quite a number of auditoria in the city, very few are up to the mark, he said. He suggests that the Government or private industries should establish small theatres that have excellent acoustics in different parts in the city, away from maddening crowd. These theatres should be able to accommodate about 200 persons and not more. A city such as Bangalore can accommodate six such auditoriums. The programmes in such theatres will be more enjoyable for two reasons. One, it will be homely with good acoustics and proximity to the homes in this city where transportation is a problem, especially after dark. People can walk back home in case of the worst. Secondly, a sense of security will make the programme more enjoyable, he added.
