After the success of Udayananu Tharam, director Rosshan Andrrews is back this time with an entirely new team of young faces. Notebook comes up with an interesting tale of a series of events in the life of a higher secondary school student, Saira (Roma).during an academic year. The script is by Boban and Sanjay.

Saira's character is well conceived. The film revolves around events in the life of Saira, Sridevi (Maria) and Pooja (Parvathy) who are thick friends.

Saira, though belonging to a broken family, maintains a cheerful disposition. The events in the school build up to a situation where Saira shows another side of her character — of a bold young woman who dares to challenge injustice.

Meanwhile, Sridevi enters into a relationship with Suraj Menon (Suraj). Saira and Pooja take it upon themselves to save her from a difficult situation.

The director provides a visual spectacle in several scenes with good shots of the imposing school building and the school assembly. The film entertains and engages the viewers, but falls short of being thought provoking.

Suresh Gopi makes a guest appearance. The others in the cast include Prem Prakash, Aiswaria and Seetha.

The lyrics by Vayalar Sarath are set to music by newcomer Mejo Joseph. K.J. Yesudas, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Manjari, Afsal, Rimi Tomy, Jyotsna and Vidhu have rendered the songs.

C. Diwakar's camera and the background score are a relief when the dialogues go off the mark. Notebook is produced by P.V.Gangadharan for Grihalakshmi Productions.
